About the Author and Illustrator

Kelly Johnson and Jean Halverson are both retired elementary school teachers with 50 years of teaching experience combined. Jean was primarily a first and second grade teacher for most of her career, while Kelly started out her career teaching third and fourth graders, and then finished her career as a gifted and talented teacher. 

While both women call Prescott, Wisconsin their home, they also love escaping to a warmer climate during the winter months! Kelly would add that she loves to boat with her husband, Dave, and enjoy family time with her two daughters and their husbands. Exercise classes, singing, biking, and friends are some of the things that Kelly enjoys most. Jean and her husband, Scott, enjoyed raising their three children but are now enjoying being 

grandparents to three grandsons. Jean is happy when she can shop, attend sporting events, travel, and most of all spend time with her family and friends.
